Enzymes are proteins that catalyze chemical reactions. Enzymes like the one we use in our range are produced by ‘good’ bacteria when fruit, in our case pineapples, is fermented. Our pineapple enzyme consists of a combination of several enzymes, including protease, amylase and lipase, which break down carbohydrates and fats respectively into smaller particles. These smaller particles are easier for surfactants (detergents, soaps) and water to clean away. Enzymes are particularly good at removing stains, odors, food waste and other soils. They are extremely unlikely to cause allergic reactions and are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

Surfactants are surface active agents that break the surface tension between two liquids. When you want to wash an oily plate, for example, water alone won’t do it as water and oil don’t mix. You need some sort of surfactant - soap or detergent - to break the tension between the two liquids, to lift the oil so it can be rinsed away. Surfactants can function in different ways, but the ones in our products are detergents and foaming agents. Our surfactants are made from coconut and are extremely gentle and suitable for sensitive skin.

We have chosen to use a small amount of sodium coco sulfate in our dish soap as it’s a surfactant that improves cleaning and foaming. Unlike other sulfates like sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium coco sulfate has larger molecules that can’t penetrate the skin. Experts state that it is safe to use, and because it’s derived from coconuts, it’s far more eco-friendly than other sulfates which are made from palm oil.

Absolutely not. Palm oil is unsustainable and damaging to the environment and animal habitats. We use coconut-based products instead which are just as effective and more eco-friendly.

Our pineapple-scented products exude the light, delightful aroma of fresh-cut pineapples. This fragrance is achieved entirely naturally. In contrast, our unscented products may have a faintly sour odor, reminiscent of the pineapple enzyme after fermentation. For some other Simply Pineapple products, we enhance the experience by adding natural fragrances through the inclusion of essential oils.

Some products have a small amount of natural fragrance added, in the form of natural essential oils. Other products are unscented but carry a light pineapple fragrance naturally. All our product names indicate whether they are fragranced or not.

Yes! They are also suitable for soakaways as they are biodegradable.

Yes they are. Our products actually help clean the waterways they end up in, as the enzymes continue to biodegrade organic matter.
